Jamie Jones - 911 [Crosstown Rebels]
Jamie Jones returns to Crosstown Rebels with a belter of a new release. An instant techno classic. With a nod to 4Hero’s classic ‘Mr Kirk’s Nightmare’ it displays a similar sinister yet comic atmosphere culminating in a classic techno track that will be around for a long time to come. This is the signature Jamie Jones sound, rolling basslines and oozing sexiness through the groove. Another EP to cement his place on the map of electronic music and turn heads this summer.

Model 500 - Starlight [Echospace (Detroit)]
This is the remastered original "Starlight" from the Godfather of Techno, Juan Atkins aka Model 500, originally released on 12" by Metroplex in 1995. Includes 9 new remixes specially commissioned by Echospace. This classic masterpiece was originally engineered by Basic Channel's Moritz von Oswald and recorded at the Basic Channel studio in Berlin sometime in 1993-1994. Upon release, this track quickly became a cult favorite from Derrick May to Derrick Carter, and infected house, techno, ambient and even dub DJs alike. A song so powerful, it led to a change in techno music forever and was a shining example of what Detroit was all about: innovation. Juan Atkins was the first person to apply the word "techno" to music. He found new ways of making sound, and in so doing, he influenced nearly every genre of music in the 1980s and beyond. Yet his name is not well- known beyond the world of electronic dance music. He might, in fact, be one of the most obscure of modern music's true pioneers. This CD has been mixed together seamlessly for an uninterrupted listening excursion through the many shapes and forms of this song's incarnations. First, we offer the remastered original from Ron "Motown" Murphy, who spent countless hours restoring this treasure from 1/4" tapes. Then we find ourselves captivated in the pure, refined deepness of Deepchord's towering menace of space and bass. Echospace manage to give Juan's original just enough percussion flare, with wave frequencies rushing through a field of delay which spin around your head. This leads into a widescreen electro rendition from Soultek, and Convextion serves up some Kompakt-ish schaffel grooves, but with a hypnotic Detroit effect. Mike Huckaby makes good use of the Waldorf Wave before we enter ambient territory from Echospace who combine daring production techniques with vibrant forms of texture and color. Sean Deason presents a stomping killer with devastatingly beautiful synthesized notes and a sweet 909, and Phase90 presents breathtaking pads and a slow motion effect so powerful, it could only be compared to the works of Thomas Köner or Wolfgang Voigt's Gas project -- this is love in lo-fi. Finally, Intrusion takes it out with a dubbed-out, dreamy ambient voyage.
Electronica:
Andrea Parker feat. DJ Assault - Freaky Bitches Remixes (Second Installment) [Touchin' Bass]
Andrea Parker's classic `Freaky Bitches' single featuring Detroit's booty bass masters DJ Assault and DJ Godfather, gets more re-workings with the Second Instalment of remixes. The First Instalment, released earlier this year featured a fine fettle of bass beauties from Alpha 606, Kero, weedjs and Ed Devane. Now we're back as Touchin' Bass pass the baton onto another five musical maestros. First up is the booty shakin' Michna remix with its old-skool cut `n' paste style, creative sampling and up-beat tempo. As Eggfooyoung, Adrian Michna is no new comer to Touchin' Bass, having released the EP `Breakdance and Motivate' in the label's early days. He is also part of Miami's Secret Frequency Crew and has signed to Ghostly for the release of his debut album as Michna, out in October. Then steps up Clatterbox, another Touchin' Bass regular with his resonating take on the original. Clatterbox aka David Kempston gained an early following with releases on seminal UK label, Clear. The launch of Z-Bop alongside Steve Horne (The Horn) followed and more recently his work as DJK Productions, plus an electro workout on Touchin' Bass last year. Here he turns out the hard, angular electro-funk in typical Clatterbox style. On the B-side we move things outside of the Touchin' Bass camp, kicking off with Justin Maxwell, taking `Freaky Bitches' into an entirely different musical territory. A media ace, Justin's career spans a number of areas. A DJ and producer, his work can be found internationally on labels like Palette, Trapez, Compost, Poker Flat, Get Physical and Pretension, where he did the classic track `Pillow Filter'. As a technological guru his sound design skills have been put to use by the likes of Apple, Sony, and Miramax, and he has helped to design some of the most innovative hardware and software synthesizers available today. Montreal's LCEDP provides an amazing aural assault for his rendition. Not for the faint-hearted Antoine Cote has become known for his speedcore creations as both LCEDP and Audioterrorism. Here his experimentation in sound, blends distorted noise with disturbing beats and instrumental snippets to create a barrage on the senses and highlight the diversity of this latest set of remixes. Purely menacing and damn right noisy!! For the final venture we continue the musical experimentations and hand over to Warp's Mira Calix, known for her dark brooding, electronic textures and compositions, with several releases under her belt, including projects with The London Sinfonietta and Alexander's Annex. Not for the first time she joins up with the remarkable musician that is cellist Oliver Coates who attained the highest degree result in the Royal Academy of Music's history and went on to achieve an MPhil with distinction at Oxford University. He toured as guest principal cello in the London Sinfonietta this summer (Singapore Arts Festival) along with Mira Calix. Together they present a stunning remix of strange notes and unnerving frequencies.
